Llyn y Fan Fach – Finished!

Llyn y Fan Fach oil painting on canvas

Llyn y Fan Fach remains one of my favourite places in Wales. This oil painting was inspired by a February walk. I wanted to capture the dramatic light of the changeable weather along with the scale of the Carmarthen Fans towering over the Bothy at the edge of the lake.

Late Winter at Llyn y Fan Fach is quite a milestone for me. At 27 x 12 inches and taking a total of 20 hours to paint over the course of several weeks, it’s the largest and most time consuming oil painting I’ve completed so far.

So, now that it’s finished, I’ve applied a coat of retouching varnish which will protect it from dust and dirt yet still allow it to continue drying. In 6 months or so, it should be dry enough for the final coat of varnish.
