Two Cloudscapes

two square cloudscape oil paintings

With all the technical aspects of painting going round my head this weekend, I wanted to paint something simple to keep up my momentum without having to think too much or spend too much time. I’ve always had a fascination with clouds and have hundreds of cloudscape photos taken over the years as reference material.

I don’t often paint in a square aspect ratio, but cloudscapes seem to really suit these little 8×8 inch canvases. What’s more, they’re deep edge meaning I can paint around the edges to create an image-wrap effect.

The fronts are mostly done, I just need to paint the edges now. If these are popular, I’ll probably do a whole series.
